My 4-Star review for The Blood of an Immortal by Michael S. Gardner

Immortality is a dream. It is also a folly... The Explorer enlists two men, a Frenchman and a Spaniard, to aid him in his quest: for a curse hangs over his head, demanding sacrifice in return for its gift. He will be their captain and they and their crews will aid him in treachery, in return for immortality.

There is a real sense of adventure here, reminding one of the pirate tales of days gone by. Dark rituals are performed and unspeakable perils ensue. The story is rife with the mythology of the seafarers, and it is easy to get caught up in the mood.

But there is a price to be paid for immortality, and the Explorer William Wright will learn what an awful price it is. Blood will be shed, souls sacrificed to darker powers. Witness the power of the sea, and be afraid...
